Sabah Medical District

Kuwait

The space and functional programs that The Innova Group developed for the Kuwait Ministry of Health incorporate the best practices of western operating methods while also remaining sensitive to Kuwaiti cultural norms and staffing patterns.

Space and Functional Programming

The Kuwait Ministry of Health provides healthcare services for its people through numerous government facilities. Looking to modernize their advanced care to a 21st century facility platform, the Ministry selected The Innova Group, in partnership with TRO Jung/Brannen architects, to provide cutting-edge master planning, and space and functional programming in redeveloping and expanding the Sabah Medical District.

Innova’s challenge was to provide “best international practice” space and functional programming for multiple tertiary care hospitals operated by a government ministry unaccustomed to using such methodology. In the absence of existing population and use-rate data, Innova worked in close relationship with government representatives to develop a customized forecast for bed need by specialty. Innova’s planners then developed room size and allocation standards to apply consistently among the different facilities under planning consideration. The resulting space and functional programs will be used as the basis for a design/build implementation, supporting an advanced healthcare campus and facility design for four 500-bed specialty hospitals.
