With two, freestanding children’s hospitals and outpatient locations in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida, Nemours Children’s Health (NCH) is among America’s largest multi-state, multihospital children’s health systems. The original A. I. duPont Hospital for Children (now Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware or NCHDE) and the newer Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida (NCHFL), while part of the same system, have very different infrastructures and serve completely different populations.
To ensure their facility plans align with and support the implementation of their new strategic plan, NCH engaged The Innova Group to develop an Enterprise Strategic Facility Plan (EFSP). The two main goals of the process were to:
- Have strategic facility plans that drive execution yet are flexible to accommodate significant market changes
- Align project priorities with available cash flow, year over year
The ESFP process was both bottom up and top down. The Innova Group worked with staff at each location to assure understanding of the challenges and opportunities and with market and system leadership to connect future facility plans and priorities with strategy. Examples of our work included:
- Completed detailed functional and operational assessments for five campuses
- Developed department level programs for the hospitals and major clinic building
- Created facility scenarios and capital model for each campus with projects prioritized at the market level
- Facilitated project prioritization at the enterprise level to determine cadence of implementation and refine the annual capital request for the Board
